How many words is this?
Type or paste your text into the box above and the word count updates live — no button to press. Words are counted by splitting on whitespace, so "don't" and hyphenated words like "well-known" each count as one word, matching how word counters in Word and Google Docs count.
Does it count characters with or without spaces?
Both, side by side. "Characters (with spaces)" counts every character including spaces and line breaks — the number most character-limit fields (tweets, meta descriptions, text messages) actually enforce. "Characters (no spaces)" strips whitespace first, which is closer to what a per-character billing or essay rule usually means.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The word counter runs entirely in your browser — your text is never sent to a server, logged, or stored anywhere but this tab. Open your browser's dev-tools Network tab and watch the uploads counter in the top bar: it stays at 0 no matter how much you type or paste.
Is there a word limit?
No. Paste a tweet or an entire manuscript — there's no character cap and no paywall. Very large pastes are counted with a short debounce so typing stays smooth, but there's no hard limit on size.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time assumes an average silent reading speed of 200 words per minute; speaking time assumes an average spoken pace of 130 words per minute. Both are estimates — actual reading and speaking speed vary by person and content, but 200/130 wpm are the commonly used defaults for this kind of estimate.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, the counter, case converter and clean-up tools keep working with no internet connection — it's just JavaScript running on your device, with no server round-trip required for any of it.
How this works & why it’s private
Everything on this page — counting words and characters, keyword density, the case converter and the clean-up tools — runs as plain JavaScript in your browser. Your text is read out of the textarea, processed in memory, and never leaves your device; there is no server for it to be sent to. To verify, open your browser's dev-tools Network tab and watch the uploads counter in the top bar stay at 0 no matter what you type, paste or convert.
Your last text is saved in this browser's localStorage so it's still here if you accidentally close the tab — nothing is uploaded to keep it, and you can clear it any time with the Clear button.
